چکیده

W. Berg, M. Türk and H. J. Hellebrand Department of Technology Assessment and Substance Cycles Department of Engineering for Livestock Management Leibniz-Institute for Agricultural Engineering Potsdam-Bornim (ATB), Max-Eyth-Allee 100, D-14469 Potsdam, Germany Abstract Animal manure is a source of undesired gaseous emissions as there are ammonia (NH3), methane (CH4) and nitrous oxide (N2O). They can be reduced by manure additives. Investigations were done on acidifying liquid cattle manure with nitric or lactic acid respectively on laboratory scale. The manure was stored in open vessels with 50 kg for 92 days (nitric acid) and with 75 kg for 190 days (lactic acid), respectively.

The effect of feeding high fat diet to beef cattle on manure composition and gaseous emission from a feedlot pen surface

BACKGROUND Dietary manipulation is a common practice to mitigate gaseous emission from livestock production facilities, and the variation of fat level in the diet has shown great influence on ruminal volatile fatty acids (VFA) and enteric methane generation. The changes in dietary fat levels influence rumen chemistry that could modify manure nutrient composition along with odor and gaseous emis...

Emission of volatile organic compounds after land application of cattle manure.

Beef cattle manure can serve as a valuable source of nutrients for crop production. However, emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) after land application may pose an odor nuisance to downwind populations. This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of land application method, diet, soil moisture content, and time since manure application on VOC emissions. Manure was collected from...

Reducing crude protein in beef cattle diet reduces ammonia emissions from artificial feedyard surfaces.

Concentrated animal feeding operations are major sources of ammonia to the atmosphere. Control methods to reduce emissions include acidifying amendments, urease inhibitors, and absorbents. For beef cattle, decreasing crude protein (CP) in diets may be the most practical and cost-effective method to reduce ammonia emissions. Our objective was to quantify the effect of reducing CP in beef cattle ...

Gaseous nitrogen emissions and forage nitrogen uptake on soils fertilized with raw and treated swine manure.

Treatments to reduce solids content in liquid manure have been developed, but little information is available on gaseous N emissions and plant N uptake after application of treated liquid swine manure (LSM). We measured crop yield, N uptake, and NH3 and N2O losses after the application of mineral fertilizer (NH4 NO3), raw LSM, and LSM that was decanted, filtered, anaerobically digested, or chem...

Estimation of Methane Emissions from Slurry Pits below Pig and Cattle Confinements

Quantifying in-house emissions of methane (CH4) from liquid manure (slurry) is difficult due to high background emissions from enteric processes, yet of great importance for correct estimation of CH4 emissions from manure management and effects of treatment technologies such as anaerobic digestion. In this study CH4 production rates were determined in 20 pig slurry and 11 cattle slurry samples ...
